And not just that, but it's flat-out one of the best distros, period!Īnd, they have every right to run their forums the way they want to.īut, when you can't even go over there and say something like, "Just installed DistroX, looks very interesting, you guys might want to take a look," or "Anybody have any experience with DistroY? Looks like a good distro," it just seems like they take things too far. I agree, PLCOS is probably the best rolling release distro out there. It looks crap to outsiders, solves nothing, and, you know, it's boring too.

Plus, it's a good point that flame wars can harm a distro trying to build a community. While it's a good point that it seems a little paranoid that other OS discussion isn't allowed, it makes a lot of sense when you are trying to find answers you need. I have to say that it has proved more useful to me as an end user that they do adopt the PCLOS-only approach on the forums. There are plenty of other places to discuss other distributions. I just respect their wishes and I don't think that is too much to ask considering they provide the best rolling release I have ever seen. Discussing other operating systems just results in too many flame wars. The PCLinuxOS forum prefers to keep the focus on helping people with PCLinuxOS. I appreciate this point of view, and agree with it to a certain extent, but. Aren't we all in this together? And yes, that's enough to make me not want to use it. I don't understand why they don't allow it in the general discussion forum. And if a problem comes up, a web search will usually uncover the solution, anyway. I just don't post at their forums anymore, and I'm sure nobody over there misses me!īut users can keep an eye on announcements and things at their forums, and if you need help there are PCLOS users at other forums, so it's all good. None of that has stopped me from using the distro, though - it's a great distro, in my opinion (will I get banned from the Ubuntu forums for saying that? LOL!). These forums are for the discussion and support of PCLinuxOS, not Distro(X). The post where I found this goes on to say: I thought that previously they simply said that no discussion of other distros was allowed. I believe that policy has been changed somewhat since I last posted over there, but I'm not sure. We have a strong policy of not discussing the promotion of nor the dismissal of other distro's, postings that do this will be removed, there may be occasions where distros are discussed in a neutral way, these posts will be generally coverd by a common-sense exception to allow their being, otherwise they will be removed. I use several different distros and I like to talk about them, but I've been reprimanded for discussing other distros over there.ġ4. That's really the only thing I don't like about PCLOS, too. It's extremely rare that someone mentions another distro, and if you even mention ubuntu, you get get a severe reprimand, or get banned. The only thing I didn't like with the whole pclinuxos experience is the "closed society" mentality they seem to have on the forums.
